Karkala: George Castelino Gets National-level Award

Karkala, Aug 24: Well-known teacher, state award winner, able organizer, master compere and headmaster of Shri Mahalingeshwar School at Nakre near here has bagged the prestigious 'National-level Best Teacher Award' for the year 2006-07.

George Castelino is well-known in the region as 'Georgy Master' and is being liked by one and all for his helpful nature and humane dealings. Being an ace compere he has compered for more than 5,000 Kannada, Konkani and Tulu programmes free of cost. He is the founder president of Karkal unit of Catholic Sabha.

He has also publishes a Konkani book named "Karyem Sobhann", which a key help in organizing Konkani programmes. He had been awarded as the best teacher at the state-level in the year 2004-05.

At present he lives in Nakre with his wife Reena and children. He will presented with the award by President Pratibha Patil at a gala function to be held in New Delhi on September 5.

Shyam N Shetty Elected Organizing Secretary of AIHRA

Mumbai, Aug 7: Veteran hotelier Shyam N Shetty has been unanimously elected as organizing secretary of All- India Human Rights Association (AIHRA) Maharastra Unit.

He was elected during the meeting held by the executive committee of AIHRA Maharastra Unit, recently. AIHRA Maharastra functions at the leadership of former police officer Ramarao Ghadke.

Shyam Shetty, a hotelier of repute, hails from Nakre Balipagutthu in Karkala taluk. He is a popular entrepreneur who has over 3 decades of experience in hotel industry in Mumbai. He owns Shwetha Palace Hotel in Navi Mumbai besides Shetty Caterers.

He is serving as honorary chief secretary of Navi Mumbai Hotel Owners' Association for the past 8 years after serving as its president. Moreover, he is serving as treasurer of Federation of Hotel and Restaurant Owners Association Maharastra and executive president of Mumbai Bunts Association sports committee. He is also a movie producer and director. His Kannada movie, ‘Ivalanthaha Hendthy’ was screened in 1987.
